A place with purpose and real impact. Genomics is key to improving patients’ outcomes
Meet Sarah, Clinical Scientist at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. As a Clinical Scientist, Sarah uses genomics to help diagnose people with cancer and match them to the treatment most likely to work for them (known as personalised medicine). Her work has a real impact on patients’ outcomes.
Whilst studying for her Master’s in Human and Molecular Genetics at The University of Sheffield, Sarah did work experience at the Julia Garnham Centre (a university partnership with the Children’s Hospital) which cemented her love for genomics in healthcare. Sarah then secured a role at Sheffield Children’s on the Scientist Training Programme in Cancer Genomics, then chose to stay in the same laboratory after qualifying as a Clinical Scientist.
I always knew that I needed a job with purpose. Working in cancer genomics touches diagnosis, prognosis (likely outcomes) and treatment to enable the best outcomes for patients. Every day is different – there’s always something new to learn, and challenges to overcome, in this continually evolving field. The Sheffield laboratory is a great team environment, where we strive to do what’s best for our patients.
“I’m from Bedfordshire originally, but love living in Sheffield. The Peak District is on my doorstep, and I have aspirations of buying my own home – this feels much more achievable here than down south.
Join us – there’s no better place to be.
