The North East and Yorkshire NHS Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (NEY GMSA) is one in a network of seven regional alliances launched in England in January 2021 by the NHS Genomic Medicine Service (GMS) to oversee and co-ordinate the embedding of genomics into routine healthcare across England.
The GMSA network was established by NHS England, to improve the health of our population and deliver on the commitments in the NHS Long Term Plan. We work closely with the regional Clinical Services, including the Clinical Genetics Services and the Genomic Laboratory Hub.
The North East & Yorkshire GMSA covers approximately 16% of the population of England and is the second largest, which brings a range of opportunities for the region that will be driven through the Alliance Network (inc. Integrated Care Systems, Cancer Alliances and Primary Care Networks). It builds on extensive existing local and regional clinical networks across a broad range of specialties.
