Never heard of genomics, or not sure where to start learning more? Why not watch our ‘ABC of Genomics’ sessions. Designed to fit into busy diaries, these 30-minute sessions cover:
Advances in Genomics – a quick tour of the use of genomics over the years, to help explain why the genomics revolution is happening now within the NHS.
Basics of Genomics – Genomics can be confusing so in this session we break the topic down into the basic concepts, and consider what health care professionals do and don’t need to know.
Clinical Practice and Genomics – Learn about examples of where genomics is already happening across the mainstream NHS, and find out more about how staff can increase their genomic competency in advance of introducing genomics into patient pathways.
Session A
In the first session of our 3-part series we take a quick tour of the use of genomics over the years, to help explain why the genomics revolution is happening now within the NHS.
From the use of microscopes in the 1950s, to today’s whole genome sequencing we will consider what these techniques involve, and how they have changed the capability and scope of testing for patients.
Session B
Genomics can be confusing! In session 2 of our 3-part series we break the topic down into the basic concepts. From genes to chromosomes, variants to inheritance, we will help health professionals navigate what they do and don’t need to know.
Session C
In the final session of our 3-part series we will consider examples of where genomics is already happening across the mainstream NHS and learn more about how staff can increase their genomic competency in advance of introducing genomics into patient pathways.
